Since the very first days of the war in Ukraine, after hours and days of back-breaking journey, thousands of people fleeing war in Ukraine arriving to Slovakia have got off at the bus and train station in Kosice. Water, food and place for relief represent their crucial need.

Over the time, Kosice bus station has become a strategic point and evolved into a hotspot for people on the run. In this first contact centre people can find a temporary shelter, advice and the first relief assistance. The hotspot and joint assistance provided by UN Agencies and NGOs are coordinated by the City of Kosice.

IOM followed up on its previous delivery of humanitarian food assistance and handed over the second batch of non-perishable food items, water, tea, coffee, milk or hygienic supplies, in a total of 16 palettes of items. Both shipments cover the hotspot needs for 4 weeks consumption of people benefiting from the hotspot services.

IOM delivers food for the City of Kosice hotspot for Ukrainians

IOM joined the US Steel Košice (USSK) and the City of Košice joint initiative to assist people in need from Ukraine with cooked lunches. IOM secures everyday transport of the lunches from USSK canteen to the City of Košice hotspot at the bus station.

The USSK also has set up a platform for its employees who want to support this initiative and donate part of their food credits to share food with those who are forced to leave their homes due to the war.
