The regional offices of the IOM Migration Information Centre (MIC) held 14 events in 8 different cities in Slovakia for over 760 people, mainly members of Ukrainian communities. Participants in the regions could benefit from important information and free advice on temporary protection, safe work or social security, but also cultural events or a celebration of Ukrainian Independence Day.


Piestany: Crucial skills for employment on the Slovak job market and CV workshop

On 23 August 2023, the first CV workshop took place in Piestany, bringing together a group of eight enthusiastic participants. During this informative workshop, attendees had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the essential skills required to thrive on the competitive Slovak job market.

The event also featured a comprehensive CV workshop that provided practical guidance on crafting effective resumes to help job seekers stand out to potential employers. This event aimed to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to enhance their employability and career prospects in Slovakia. Each participant received tailored advice and help regarding their career prospects and CV creation.


Ukrainian Independence Day in different Slovak cities

On 24 August 2023, Ukrainian Independence Day was celebrated with great unity across all regional offices of IOM Slovakia, with an impressive turnout of over 500 participants. This significant event marked the commemoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence.

Attendees from diverse backgrounds and cultures came together to honour this historic occasion, showcasing solidarity and support for Ukraine. The celebration included various cultural and educational activities that promoted a deeper understanding and appreciation of Ukrainian heritage and its journey towards freedom.

Zilina, Trencin, Banska Bystrica, Presov: Information seminars about temporary protection and permanent residency in Slovakia

In August 2023, over 50 participants had an opportunity to ask questions specific to their situations and receive qualified case-by-case legal and social counselling. They also became acquainted with social support opportunities in Slovakia and the free services of the IOM MIC’s newly opened offices in Trencin, Zilina and Banska Bystrica.

We also took the opportunity to inform participants about safe work and the prevention of human trafficking and held a discussion on what must be included in an employment contract and how the IOM MIC can help in this area.

We also delivered vital material aid to people in need.

IOM Migration Information Centre

The MIC is the counselling centre of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Since 2006, it has been providing EU and non-EU nationals with free services that help them with social, economic and cultural integration in Slovakia. It provides comprehensive integration and social and vocational counselling to migrants, promotes their inclusion into the labour market, organises Open Slovak Language Courses and courses of social and cultural orientation, provides them with important information about life in Slovakia, and supports the community life of migrants.

The MIC provides its services in offices in Bratislava, Košice and most recently also in six regional offices in Banská Bystrica, Nitra, Prešov, Trenčín, Trnava and Žilina.
