As the humanitarian situation caused by the war in Ukraine continues, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Slovakia is strengthening its support to displaced people and host communities, thanks to funding provided by the Government of Japan.
This renewed partnership will enable IOM to continue its activities in the areas of housing, access to health care, protection, and data collection, addressing the immediate humanitarian needs of refugees from Ukraine in Slovakia. The project is part of IOM’s broader response aimed at enhancing the well-being and resilience of vulnerable individuals and the communities hosting them.

"As a neighbouring country, Slovakia has shown exceptional solidarity, but it also continues to shoulder significant financial and social burdens," said Mr. Yasuhiro Kawakami, Ambassador of Japan to the Slovak Republic. "It is a crucial and fundamental duty of the international community, including the Japanese Government, to share in such burdens and uphold responsibility. We are proud to stand by IOM Slovakia in this vital work."

"IOM Slovakia welcomes the renewed support from the Government of Japan," said Mr. Valon Halimi, Chief of Mission IOM Slovakia. "This project will enable us to continue assisting and providing services to the evolving and ongoing needs of displaced people and to strengthen the resilience of communities in Slovakia."
