“When the first sirens sounded, I didn’t know what to do. Sumy, my city, was shaking to its foundations, and I knew I had to protect my child. We packed a few bags, got in the car, and set off into the unknown. Slovakia became our refuge—a place where we hoped to find peace. The first months were difficult."
"The uncertainty, the fear for the family that stayed back home, and the unfamiliar environment were overwhelming. Fortunately, we found support in a volunteer organization in Nitra. They not only provided us with material assistance but also gave us the feeling that we were not alone.
The real turning point in my path to integration was meeting the Migration Information Center (MIC). I don’t know who told me about them, but thanks to that unknown person, I found people who guided me. They helped me navigate the bureaucracy, financially supported me in completing the supplementary exam required for the recognition of my pharmacist qualification and gave me hope that I could return to my professional life."
"Slovak bureaucracy can be challenging at times. However, I am grateful that I can now work in a pharmacy as a pharmacist. Pharmacists are highly respected in Slovakia, not like at home. I really appreciate the help from everyone that I received here. Thanks to that support, I recovered not only professionally but also mentally.
And what would I advise others coming to Slovakia? Don’t give up! Everything is possible here if you have enough determination. Seek help, don’t hesitate to ask, and remember that there are people in Slovakia who care about you and will help you find your place.”
