The EMN Educational Seminar on Migration dealt with the topic Addressing the Needs of Forced Migrants in the 21st Century. During 3 to 5 July 2017, more than 60 participants had the opportunity to listen to and discuss with 17 experts from international organisations, institutions and non-governmental organisations.

The experts lectured about migratory trends and international governance, enhancement of safe and legal pathways for migrants, protection of migrants, and empowerment of refugees of the 21st century. Furthermore, they brought experience with the forced migration in the West Africa, Middle East and Afghanistan.

Among participants were representatives of state and public administration, state implementing authorities, international organisations, non-profit sector and volunteering initiatives, academia, foreign embassies of both EU and non-EU countries, as well as research institutes and think-tanks.

The seminar programme included also two evening public events: on 3 July 2017 a film screening of the Good Lie movie and the following day the EMN Discussion Evening Refugee Camp – My Home together with a film screening Salam Neighbor and a discussion with Kilian Kleinschmidt, the former manager of the Za'atari refugee camp:

The 5th edition of the EMN Educational Seminar was organised by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the Coordinator of the European Migration Network (EMN) National Contact Point for the Slovak Republic.
