We Are At Home Here is a documentary film introducing the life of migrants in Slovakia. It reflects the attitudes of Slovaks to migrants and how their opinions do(not) correspond to the reality of migration. You can also project this film in your town or in your home. The film is also available in HD quality at the YouTube site of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), where it was viewed more than 5,200 times between April 2013 and February 2016. Thousands more people have seen the film during public and school projections in dozens of cities around Slovakia.

The film We Are At Home Here is included among the films of the One World Festival that you can borrow and screen in your municipality – in your home or at work for yourself and your friends, in your school, in your library, on premises of your organization, or in your film club. You can even organize a public screening of these films to the general public.

IOM - Public presentation of the film We Are At Home Here, March 2013, Bratislava

For the first time, the film We Are At Home Here was presented to professional public in Kino Lumière in Bratislava in March 2013. Methods of working with the film in education about migration were also presented. After the screening there was a discussion with the film protagonists.

In April 2013, a premiere of the film We Are At Home Here followed by a discussion with one of the film protagonists took place in Kino Lumière in Bratislava. The event was part of the 8th Festival of New Minorities [fjúžn].

In October 2013, visitors of the Development Day 2013 held in Bratislava's Stará tržnica (Old Market) could see and discuss the film as well.

In addition, other public screenings of the film took place in November 2013 in Kino Lumière and Kino Film Europe in Bratislava during the International Documentary Film Festival One World 2013, where the film was seen by 400 young people from primary and secondary schools. After each projection they discussed the film, migration and migrants in Slovakia with IOM staff.

Moreover, the film was screened during the IOM multiCOOLtural events that took place in Christiania Presov and  Záriečie Station in Žilina in April 2015. Screening of the film was followed by a debate with foreigners about their life in Slovakia.

The film was selected in the programme of the numerous One World Film Festival events that took place in various cities in Slovakia and in other film, cultural and social events held in Banská Bystrica, Bánovce nad Bebravou, Bratislava, Čadca, Richvald near Bardejov, Ružomberok, Topoľčany, Žilina and other municipalities.

Educational materials on migration

In addition to the film, IOM prepared a a didactic material and an information poster that constitute a set of IOM educational materials on migration. Teachers, lecturers and public as well are invited to use these materials to present the issue of migration in schools, trainings for professionals working with migrants or introduce migration to the broad public.

More than 250 sets of educational materials were sent to primary and secondary schools and universities, methodological centres, state institutions, international and non-governmental organisations working working on migration and human rights.

Furthermore, other sets were widely circulated to teachers, participants in conferences and educational seminars of the European Migration Network, the participants of IOM trainings and workshops for experts working with migrants, journalists, representatives of migrant communities, the participants of the Festival of New Minorities [fjúžn] and One World Film Festivals, events of the Development Day and to other persons interested in learning more about migration.

The film We Are At Home Here was created by International Organization for Migration (IOM) in coollaboration with the film director Marcel Pázman and the Frame Film Ltd.
