Water and food represent the crucial part of humanitarian assistance in any crisis. The strategic point of the bus and train station in Kosice has become a hotspot for people fleeing war from Ukraine. Since the very first days of the conflict, thousands of people have found a temporary refuge in the relief center. The assistance on site is provided by UN Agencies (IOM, UNHCR, UNICEF) with various local and international NGOs under the coordination of the City of Kosice.
In the course of one month, this first contact centre helps people in need after a long journey often in high temperatures and gives them out 14,000 bottles of water, 2,800 baby food pouches or 1,600 teas. IOM will deliver another shipment to the Kosice hotspot consisting of food items for further 2 weeks consumption.
Distributing humanitarian aid is one of the pillars of the IOM response to the crisis in Ukraine. Read more about how IOM helps people fleeing war in Ukraine.
