On February 7, 2025, we partnered with the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Slovak Republic to train more than 50 police officers from the National Unit for Combating Illegal Migration. The training aimed to strengthen their expertise in protecting migrants' rights, identifying vulnerable individuals, and preventing human trafficking.

Key Topics Covered

🔹 Protection of Foreigners’ Rights and Fraudulent Practices
Monika Zollerová, a lawyer from the Migration Information Center (MIC), presented current trends in the violation of foreigners' rights and shared experiences of MIC clients who have encountered exploitation and fraud.

🔹 Migrant Vulnerability and Human Trafficking
Zuzana Čačová focused on the concept of migrant vulnerability and its connection to human trafficking. She emphasized the importance of early identification of at-risk individuals and measures to protect them.

The training also featured experts from the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Slovak Republic, who provided valuable insights into criminal law:

🔹 Adam Petrovič – Prosecutor of the Criminal Section, General Prosecutor’s Office of the Slovak Republic, Property Crime Department

🔹 Michaela Vilhanová – Prosecutor at the District Prosecutor’s Office Bratislava II

The training, organized in cooperation with the National Unit for Combating Illegal Migration, was led by JUDr. Zuzana Király, PhD., from the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Slovak Republic.

A Shared Goal: Better Protection and Prevention

Educating professionals in the fields of migration and criminal law is crucial for effectively combating human trafficking and protecting migrants’ rights. The collaboration between IOM and the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Slovak Republic strengthens the capacities of those on the front lines addressing these critical issues.
