Office of the International Organization of Migration (IOM) in the Slovak Republic is seeking for a candidate for the position of Project Associate (Legal Counselling).

Classification:

General Staff (GV, UN Salary Scale valid for the Slovak Republic since 1 Jan 2023). Step one of the salary scale corresponds to base salary 1,845.58 EUR per month - income is exempted from taxation.

6 weeks of paid annual leave per year (2.5 days per completed month of service).
24 days of paid sick leave per year (2 days per completed month of service).
Special medical insurance.

Type of Appointment: One Year Fixed Term Contract, with possibility of extension (subject to funding)

Context:

Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Mission (COM) and the the Head of Migrant Protection and Assistance Unit, and under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Associate (Legal Counselling), the incumbent will be responsible for providing legal counselling within the services of the Migration Information Centre (MIC), supporting the effective inclusion of migrants in Slovakia.

Core functions / Responsibilites:

  1. Provide information and conduct individual counselling sessions on legal matters particularly relevant to extension of legal stay in Slovakia (e.g. residence, migration rights and obligations, family reunification). Conduct initial assessment of needs and provide background information for individual cases of beneficiaries.
  2. Establish daily communication with competent authorities (Foreign police, Labour Office, local municipalities) to facilitate full support of the cases and provide accurate information to the beneficiaries.
  3. Support coordination of MIC legal including liaison and networking opportunities to facilitate legal protection, access to public services and authorities.
  4. Advise and assist social rights-related caseload matters, (e.g. registration, applying for social support, housing, employment, medical services, other personal needs),
  5. Organize outreach activities towards the private sector, educational and research institutions, trainings, and consultations.
  6. Support (where applicable) the information units envisaged by the current legislation.
  7. Prepare records on individual cases, performs case management and maintain client’s folders.
  8. Monitor websites for updates and new legislation with regards to labour mobility.
  9. Assist in elaboration legal analyses and statements to relevant laws and other legal documents.
  10. Collect and regularly update relevant data and legal documents in a database of information related to inclusion of migrants in Slovakia.
  11. Assist in development of information materials and other supporting documents for target groups;
  12. Monitor and assist in updating the MIC website, including insertion of updates, communication with website service provider.
  13. Assist in preparation of various visibility materials in form of presentations, photos, articles, short films, or others.
  14. Perform general office maintenance tasks including correspondence, market surveys; logistics, and procurement of technical equipment and office supplies.
  15. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
