The programme has officially concluded.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Slovakia, with the support of UNHCR, has launched a short-term cash assistance programme for winter needs in Slovakia 2025. This one-time support helps vulnerable households cover essential winter needs such as heating, warm clothing, food, and other urgent expenses.

⚠️This activity is not open to new registrations. IOM will contact eligible individuals directly.

What Is Cash-Based Assistance / Intervention (CBI)?

Cash-Based Assistance is a standard humanitarian tool used worldwide. Instead of distributing goods, families receive humanitarian cash assistance to decide for themselves which needs to prioritize. This approach:

  • Promotes dignity and choice
  • Provides flexibility
  • Helps households address their most urgent expenses

CBI does not replace state support and does not guarantee future payments. It is limited in duration and depends on available humanitarian resources.

Who Can Receive Assistance?

This temporary support is strictly limited to individuals who were previously registered with UNHCR for Cash for Protection in 2024 and 2025 prioritizing households with individuals aged 60+ who have medical conditions or specific needs.

IOM will contact eligible households directly. No new registration is required.

What Kind of Support Is Provided?

Each eligible household will receive one-time winter emergency cash assistance of EUR 150 per person, with a maximum of EUR 400 per family. The payment will be provided through a Slovak bank account or Prepaid Cash Card.

How Will the Process Work?

  • IOM will contact eligible individuals via phone, SMS, or follow-up verification.
  • Receiving a call or SMS does not guarantee eligibility; it is part of the verification process.
  • Only a limited number of households can be assisted due to available resources.

Important Fraud Awareness

To protect yourself:

  • IOM never asks for money, passwords, or payments.
  • IOM staff will not request sensitive financial information.
  • If in doubt, verify any communication through the official IOM CBI Hotline.
  • Do not share personal data with unknown callers.
