Between January and April 2016 the International Organization for Migration transferred another 110 refugees of mostly Somali and Sudanese nationality to Slovakia. The transferred refugees are vulnerable families with children and individuals from refugee camps in Eritrea and Lebanon who had to flee their home countries due to ongoing conflicts and their return home is not possible. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees included the refugees in its programme of humanitarian transfer and within its framework the refugees will be resettled through the territory of Slovakia to a third country which will give them a new home.
At the end 2015 International Organization for Migration (IOM) launched a vaccination programme within its existing programme of the Humanitarian transfer of refugees under the protection of UNHCR through the territory of Slovakia. This programme is targeted at refugees who are accommodated in the Emergency Transit Centre (ETC) in Humenne preparing for their resettlement to the United States of America. These refugees are entitled to a series of vaccinations against hepatitis, measles, diphteria, pertussis, tetanus and other diseases.

IOM Migration Information Centre (MIC) in 2016 continues to organize free courses of social and cultural orientation for non-EU nationals. Courses are offering interesting topics that will help you to navigate through the important areas of life in Slovakia and will facilitate the first steps for newcomers in new country. Courses take place once a month in MIC in Bratislava and Kosice. Courses on social and cultural orientation for foreigners in Bratislava and Kosice were attended by 108 persons in 2015.
In 2016, International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the coordinator of European Migration Network (EMN) activities in Slovakia is preparing five new publications: Annual Report on Migration and Asylum Policies in the Slovak Republic in 2015; Approaches to Rejected Asylum Seekers in the Slovak Republic; Resettlement and Humanitarian Admission Programmes in the Slovak Republic – What Works?; Searching for a Family Life – The Right to Family Reunification: National Practices; and Illegal Employment of Third Country Nationals in the Slovak Republic.

In 2014, IOM Migration Information Centre in Bratislava and Košice provided 3,568 consultations to 2,296 clients. IOM staff identified 29 victims of human trafficking and assisted with the safe return of 19 of them to their country of origin. Apart from this, IOM assisted 92 migrants who had decided to voluntary return to their home country from Slovakia; and these migrants returned to 15 various countries. 17 of them were provided with further assistance to ensure their basic needs after return. In addition, IOM arranged humanitarian transfer of 98 refugees from refugee camps to the Slovak Republic, which provided them with a temporary shelter on its territory. After completion of all preparatory steps the refugees will be resettled from Slovakia to countries which provide them with a new home.

During October and November 2015, International Organization for Migration (IOM) carried out six trainings for 111 professionals from Centers of Pedagogical and Psychological Counseling and Prevention, children’s homes, re-education and low-threshold centers, and field social workers from all over Slovakia.
IOM Migration Information Centre (MIC) in Bratislava and Kosice in 2015 organized eight INFO days for foreigners. This model of integrated counselling enabled migrants to benefit from assistance in one place at one time and to receive comprehensive advice from MIC legal consultants, Foreign Police Departments, Labour Offices, Trade Licensing Offices, Department of State Citizenship and Health insurance companies. The total of 138 foreigners from 30 countries benefited from this one stop shop counselling.
MIC has organized a total of 21 info days of integrated counselling for foreigners since 2012.
At the beginning of December 2015, a conference on Integration Programmes for Beneficiaries of International Protection along with an Expert Roundtable was organized by International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the coordinator of European Migration Network (EMN) activities in Slovakia in collaboration with the Migration Office of the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic.
In 2015 representatives of migrant communities organized, in cooperation with the IOM Migration Information Centre (MIC), 25 different events attended by 2,400 visitors where they presented their culture and promoted the social life of their communities.
