Ambassador William Lacy Swing, Director General of IOM, the United Nations Migration Agency, is making an urgent call for “Safe Migration for a World on the Move” as International Migrants Day approaches on Monday, 18 December 2017.
In October 2017, the IOM Migration Information Center (MIC) prepared four more events from the Welcoming Slovakia series providing foreigners with practical and useful information about Slovakia and enabling mutual get-to-know between Slovak public and foreigners' communities.
From January to November 2017 IOM supported those migrants, who returned voluntarily from Slovakia to 12 countries of origin and who needed help to stabilize their situation after returning home and to improve living conditions after time spent abroad.
IOM Migration Information Center (MIC) organized another counseling INFO DAY (One-Stop Shop) for foreigners from non-EU countries at its premises in Bratislava on 5 October 2017. At one point, 14 foreigners from seven countries received a comprehensive and free counseling from foreign police officers, labor office staff, and MIC legal consultants.
The Global Migration Film Festival is organised by IOM in more than 100 countries all around the world every year. This year the festival in Slovakia has teamed up with the International Documentary Film Festival One World. They jointly created a separate film section World on the Move that featured films about lives of people on the flee, about perception and acceptance of migrants in European countries and how the society changes and divides under the influence of migration.
Every migrant who returns from Slovakia to a country of origin through Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration Programme (AVRR) and needs to be provided basic living needs, housing or a source of living income for himself and his family, can request IOM Slovakia for reintegration assistance.
The European Migration Network Report provides information on development in legislation and policies in the field of migration and asylum, legal migration and mobility, international protection including asylum, unaccompanied minors and other vulnerable groups as well as irregular migration and smuggling in the Slovak Republic in 2016. It analyses the measures in countering human trafficking, migration and its impact on the development of countries and returns of third country nationals. Part of the report is a statistical overview of legal and irregular migration as well as unaccompanied minors.

The IOM Migration Information Center (IOM) launched a new on-line application VISA CHECK for foreigners from various countries of the world wishing to come to Slovakia. The application is designed to quickly check if you need a visa to enter the Slovak Republic. The application also enables you to determine what type of residence permit you need in order to study, work or do business in Slovakia.
During the first three months since its launch, the application has processed almost 400 requests for information from 75 countries.
