The IOM Migration Information Centre (MIC) has prepared new fact sheets for foreigners with current information and recommendations on how to apply for residence in Slovakia, and what obligations arise from the different types of temporary and permanent residence. Fact sheets are available on the IOM MIC website.
On 4 and 5 December 2018 at the Kino Lumière in Bratislava, the festival featured three remarkable films about the reasons for migration to Europe, the radical intervention of the Syrian conflict into people's lives, and the challenges faced by refugees in an unknown environment in new countries.

"Migration is the great issue of our era. Migration With Dignity (#WithDignity) is the theme of 2018’s International Migrants Day, which we observe on Tuesday (18 December).
By 2050, more than 140 million people could be forced to leave their homes as the effects of global warming problems like water scarcity, crop failure, rising sea levels and storm surges. Experts from the World Bank, Czech Academy of Sciences and IOM discussed migration caused by climate change.
On 22 – 24 August 2018, International Organization for Migration (IOM), the EMN coordinator for Slovakia, organised the 6th EMN Educational Seminar on Migration in Bratislava for more than 70 representatives of government and public administration, non-profit sector and academia.

Every year, dozens of Slovaks become modern slaves. Anyone can fall into the trap of traffickers – women and men of all ages and education, people with minimal income, but also people from standard social background who went to earn money abroad. What are the things to be aware of if you are going to travel or work abroad?
The IOM Migration Information Centre (MIC) offers to foreigners from countries outside the EU/EEA a financial contribution that can be used to cover education courses, e.g. Slovak or foreign language courses, PC skills courses, etc., or retraining courses, e.g. a hairdressing course, course for using a high-lift truck...
In 2017, IOM provided integration counselling to almost 3,400 clients, organized the EMN Educational Seminar on forced migration and assisted 46 foreigners in returning from Slovakia to 19 countries of origin.
